Don't Become Inveterate

The definition of inveterate is having a particular habit, activity, or interest that is long-established and unlikely to change or (of a feeling or habit) long-established and unlikely to change. Please…seek other training outside your team and/or agency. I have seen great teams love themselves so much they quit seeking outside influence to keep their team on edge tactically and technologically. They have become inveterate.

I often get asked, “why does my team do this or that?” Every operator on a team should know why you do something or not do something tactically. That is the only way innovation can occur. Often, I hear “That’s the way we have always done it” or “this way has worked for years and its proven.” That’s all great, maybe you got lucky or maybe the bad guy just wasn’t that good.

I can guarantee you the evil your preparing to fight is learning all they can to destroy you and all that you have sworn to protect. They are learning every way to cheat, lie, and steal to win. Their learning curve is straight up and down. They have no rules or bureaucracy. Their hunger for technology, tactics, and innovation is like no other. The good guys have to realize that hunger and train harder.

If you don’t continue to learn from outside sources and grow your tactics and technology than it’s a matter of time before you are defeated.
