Range vs. Operational Tactics

Train like you fight! Sounds familiar? I often see some crazy shooting drills on the range. Make sure everyone knows why your conducting a drill and make sure everyone understands how it parallels your current tactics.

It is also important to train for operational peak performance rather than training to be a really good shot on a static range. Try to make your shooting ranges as realistic as possible without compromising safety of course.

Your shooting drills should test your comfort zone. Try to include “shooting on the move” courses of fire and wear your kit as much as possible. Incorporate scenario based training regularly. Shoot from every position you can think of. A lot of good guys have been shot sitting in a car or a restaurant. Push yourself and your team!
